DETROIT LAKES, MN--Author ("Birding Without Boarders") Noah Strycker and festival favorite Carrol Henderson (MN DNR) are distinguished guests and keynote speakers at the 2018 Festival of Birds in Detroit Lakes today through Saturday. Hundreds of birders are expected throughout the three day festival. Festival committee member Kelly Blackledge says each day is filled with bird watching and other fun events.
Organizers say there's something for every level of birder at the Festival. Today's events include "Birding on Your Own" where birders may stop in at the Chamber for mapped out areas of some of the best chances to see bird species specific to wetlands, grasslands and forests. Also tonight a social event at Hub 41 and, weather permitting, Birding by Pontoon. As Kelly said the field trips happen Friday and Saturday mornings with programs in the evenings. Saturday is a social and Birder's Bazaar, silent auction and book signing with Carrol Henderson and Noah Strycker, all happening at M-State Between 1:30 pm and 4:00 pm.
