FERGUS FALLS, MInn. (KFGO) - Charges are pending in Otter Tail County against four Twin Cities-area residents in connection with a multi-state shoplifting ring.

Police in Fergus Falls became involved after $40,000 worth of cell phones were stolen on January 24.

Police say that while one of the suspects walked out of the store with a stolen TV as a distraction, the others rolled out 48 cell phones in a cart and left in a van. A Minnesota state trooper stopped the van west of Alexandria.

Police in Wisconsin, Illinois, Iowa, North Dakota, and South Dakota also reported similar thefts at Walmarts.

Investigators say the ring could be tied to nearly $400,000 in stolen merchandise.
