DETROIT LAKES, MN--With three failed attempts at a building bond referendum, a completed community survey and a new mix of board members, the Detroit Lakes School Board will begin to hold work sessions once again on how to address building needs for a growing enrollment in Detroit Lakes Public Schools. Monday at their regular board meeting board members discussed their next steps to address a timely issue. New board member Amy Erickson wants to create more opportunities for community input on the issues.  Veteran school board members Kylie Johnson and Board Chair David Langworthy responded saying they'd first like to hold meetings with the people who work in the buildings, the staff, and find out the issues to find out the needs. Detroit Lakes School Superintendent Doug Froke reminded the board that they've also got another tool to help guide them through the process this time around, a community survey conducted following the three attempts at a bond referendum. Froke says the board needs to lay out all the information in front of them at the upcoming work session and come up with some sort of plan. The board has set the first work session for Monday, February 27th at 6:30pm. Where it will be held is yet to be announced.
