DETROIT LAKES, MN--Bail was set at $500,000 today, Monday, for 47 year old Bruce Basswood. The Ponsford man arrested Thursday following a fatal hit and run accident near Pine Point is charged in Becker County District Court with two counts of Criminal Vehicular Homicide, one for being under the influence of alcohol and the other for leaving the scene. Court records state, a deputy arrived at the scene of the accident Thursday night where he found two unidentified females attempting CPR on 21-year-old Joshua Jones of Ponsford. When ambulance crews arrived, they also attempted to render aide, but Jones was pronounced dead at the scene. The deputy also found pieces of the vehicle that struck Jones at the scene. A witness told the deputy where they thought the vehicle originated from. The deputy went to the residence and found the vehicle with damage consistent with the missing pieces left at the scene. Two passengers were questioned during the crash investigation and alleged Basswood, the driver, continued to drive after he had hit someone.
When Basswood was given a preliminary breath test at 10:48 pm, he was allegedly at .10. A blood draw was also taken for a more accurate blood-alcohol reading. Basswood has a prior conviction for DWI from 2016. Basswood's next court date is March 5th.
