DETROIT LAKES, MN--Becker County Sheriff Todd Glander announced Tuesday he'll run for re-election in November. Coming in as a new sheriff, Glander inherited the issue of building a new jail, which remained on the front burner throughout the last three years and will remain there in the future. Glander says the new jail is expected to be open by the end of the year and the next steps would be to transition from the old downtown location to the new site off Highway 59. He says the new jail will virtually eliminate the financial burden of out-of-county boarding, which amounted to $700,000 last year alone, and he says it will improve the overall system of corrections in Becker County. Whether it be building a new jail, enforcing the law or leading a department, Sheriff Glander says he's learned the importance teamwork plays in the success of everything. "It has been a privilege to serve as sheriff, and I would be honored to serve the citizens of Becker County as your sheriff for another four years." Glander says. He began serving his first term as Becker County Sheriff in January of 2015. Glander has been in law enforcement for 30 years and all of his experience has been within Becker County.
