OTTER TAIL COUNTY, MN--A series of burglaries and break-ins are being investigated by the Otter Tail County Sheriff’s Office that occurred on the south side of Otter Tail Lake and Battle Lake starting on Thursday after 6:00 pm.

Otter Tail County Dispatch received a call from a resident on Cloverleaf Road around 7:30 pm reporting that a Remington .22 caliber Long Range Rifle, along with three boxes of ammo, a case of beer, and a case of wine were stolen from his residence between 6:30 pm on Thursday and 3:30 pm on Friday.

A while later, during an unrelated traffic stop in New York Mills, Deputies pulled over two individuals both from the Richville area, one 16 year old juvenile male and an adult male who was identified as 19 year old Zacariah Rust, who Deputies learned were in possession of the rifle and other items stolen.

During the course of an initial investigation, it was discovered that two other structures had been broken into, but nothing stolen from a guesthouse on Eldorado Beach Road, and a garage on Okeson lane in Battle Lake, at this time, the Sheriff’s Office is investigating whether the pair had any involvement in those cases.

Both individuals were taken into custody, and charged with receiving stolen property.

The Sheriff’s Office says the investigation is ongoing.
