ST. PAUL, MN--Last year's Detroit Lakes Ice Palace, Ice Harvest Committee has been recognized by the State's Tourism agency as the recipient of the "Only in MN Award: New Event of the Year". A press release from Explore Minnesota today (Feb. 6), says the award was announced this week at the 2019 Explore Minnesota Tourism Conference held in St. Paul. Explore Minnesota Tourism Awards were given to several individuals, organizations and tourism businesses for their contributions to the state's $15.3 billion travel industry.
The Ice Harvest Committee is still at it this year preparing for tomorrow's Grand Lighting of King Isbit's Throne of Ice and Royal Courtyard and Palatial Playground the official open to Polar Fest 2019. Volunteer crews are working around the clock to put the finishing touches on this year's MN Sn'ice showcase.
Committee members say despite the forecast of brutal northwest winds coupled with subzero temperatures for Thursday night, the lighting event will go on as planned at 7:00 pm. If you don't make it out Thursday, be assured the lights will be turned on each night February 7th through the 17th.
