Detroit Lakes City Residents Should See a Little Relief in Willow Street/West Avenue Assessments

DETROIT LAKES, MN--The bad news is that the weather threw a wrench into a major street project going on in Detroit Lakes. The Willow Street/West Avenue project is the major street project in 2019 and the West Avenue portion is still pretty dug up as crews had to wrap up quickly this week due to the weather conditions. BUT, the good news is residents along the two streets, as well as local taxpayers, will get to keep a little more money in their pockets...
"We were fortunate to receive a $2.2 million water infrastructure grant from the Public Facilities Authority. We're going to apply that to the project and basically what that will is we'll buy down the assessments from $2.9 million down to a little over two million dollars so that will save folks along those two streets about 30% less on their assessments and it's also going to reduce, almost 30% the city's share, so it'll affect the overall city taxpayers," Mayor Brenk said.
The reassessment hearing will be held at the November City Council meeting.
