Detroit Lakes' Leaders Updating City's Comprehensive Plan

DETROIT LAKES, MN--The City of Detroit Lakes is in the process of updating its plan for future growth of the city boundaries, also known as the Comprehensive Plan. At a recent planning commission meeting RDG consulting and design was on hand to present the latest rendering of the comprehensive plan. The updated version of the plan increases the current comprehensive plan from seven districts to 12. RDG's Corey Scott said the comprehensive plan is a tool for the city, staff and future councils, to have a general idea of what is available and a general idea on how it would be used. For example...

Included in the latest plan are areas to the west and north of the downtown area in the vicinity of Brandy Lake that include various degrees of residential development or mixed use also to the south along Highway 59 and County Road 6, and on the south shore of Detroit Lake. The Planning Commission may hold a public hearing on the comprehensive plan at their meeting later this month.
