DETROIT LAKES (KDLM) - Detroit Lakes Library Director, Mary Haney has announced she'll retire beginning January 31, 2019.

Haney grew up in Detroit Lakes, moving to the area when she was just 7 years-old. After owning a legal practice in the area for many years, she decided it was time for a change.

She told DL-Online in a recent interview, "At the time, there were no ALA (American Library Association)-accredited library science programs in Minnesota, North Dakota or South Dakota. The University of North Texas had started a distance education program in Minnesota; classes were held by interactive TV at St. Cloud State and some were entirely online."

Haney has served as the Detroit Lakes Library Director for nearly 20 years and has been a fixture in the Library as well as hosting the popular 'I Love The Library" television show on LAKES TV3.
