DETROIT LAKES (KDLM) - Around 300 students from Detroit Lakes High School took part in a nationwide school walkout as tribute to the victims of the Parkland, Florida school shooting.

The students bowed their heads and walked in silence, some wiping away tears as they walked out of class. The names of the 17 victims from the school shooting, which happened Feb. 14 were read aloud as students left the school.

Students across the country walked out of their classrooms Wednesday, as they call for safer schools and stronger gun-control legislation following last month’s mass shooting.
