FARGO (KFGO) - A man who attempted to attack Fargo police was shot and wounded overnight. Officers who were responding to domestic disturbance at 3101 32nd St. South late last night learned a woman at the apartment had a protection order against Orlando Estrada, who was inside with others. As police made contact with Estrada at the doorway, he came at them with a large knife. an officer "in fear of his life" shot Estrada, who then retreated inside. Others in the apartment were able to get out safely. Red River Valley SWAT team members, who had taken up position in the hallway, were able to convince Estrada to surrender. He was taken into custody and transported by ambulance to the hospital. His condition is not available. No one else was injured. This is the fourth officer-involved shooting in the F-M area since early February. Chief Dave Todd tells KFGO News he doesn't know what's going on "but it's certainly troubling to me."
The state Bureau of Criminal Investigation is handling the case. The officer involved in the shooting is on standard, paid administrative leave.
