Fewer handgun carry permits applied for and issued in Minnesota last year

(KNSI) - Far fewer handgun carry permits were applied for and issued in Minnesota last year than in the record-breaking year of 2016.
According to the Department of Public Safety's annual Permit to Carry Report, 58,219 permits were applied for in 2017 and 55,069 were issued.
In 2016, 73,880 permits were applied for and 71,156 were issued.
The top five counties with the most five-year permits issued were Hennepin, Anoka, Dakota, Ramsey and Washington.
1,970 permits were issued to people in Stearns County, while Benton County had 575 and Sherburne County 1,496.
According to data from sheriffs from across the state, 50 permits were revoked and 89 suspended in 2017.
As of March 1st, there were 282,838 valid carry permits in Minnesota, an increase of 17,110 from March of 2017.
