DETROIT LAKES - The first weekend of Detroit Lakes' Polar Fest got off to a 'cool' start offering residents and visitors alike with plenty of things to do.
Detroit Mountain offered visitors a unique opportunity to fat tire bike under the stars Friday evening. The guided ride, rolled through over 1.5 miles of groomed trails.
The 8th annual Poles 'N Holes fishing Derby saw hundreds of anglers try their luck at over $30,000 in prizes. Jacob Johnson of Detroit Lakes was the big winner reeling in a 3.78 lb Northern. Nearly 2,000 holes were drilled for the event Saturday morning by the Detroit Lakes High football team.
But the 'coolest' part of the weekend might have been the photo ops in front of the 30 foot Ice Palace including an engagement session by Fargo based photographer Abby Anderson.
Polar Fest is held annually and run by an independent, all-volunteer committee. This year's Polar Fest runs through Feb. 18. A full list of events and activities can be found at http://polarfestdl.com/
