FERGUS FALLS, MN (KFGO) - The former fleet manager at Nelson Auto in Fergus Falls has pleaded guilty to theft by swindle for overcharging police agencies across Minnesota for special equipment that was not on the vehicles they purchased.
Gerry Worner, 70, has pleaded guilty to one count, part of a plea deal. He entered a plea where he doesn't admit guilt but concedes that he could be convicted. An Otter Tail County District Judge is considering the agreement with sentencing scheduled for July. Worner would spend 30 days in jail.
He's paid about $325,000 of the $800,000 in restitution. Nelson Auto would be responsible for the balance.
The dealership held the contract for Ford cars and SUVs used by Minnesota police and sheriff's depts.
