Forums Tonight in Detroit Lakes Feature County and State Candidates

DETROIT LAKES, MN--Tonight candidates for Becker County Sheriff and State Representatives are scheduled to appear at League of Women Voters forums in Detroit Lakes. Beginning 7:00 pm at M-State, Becker County Sheriff candidates Al Fowler and Todd Glander will answer voter questions. A second forum will be held at 8:00 pm. Candidates invited are House Dist. 2B candidates Karen Branden and Steve Green along with House Dist. 4B candidates Paul Marquart and Jason Peterson

All events are free and open to the public. Along with the Detroit Lakes League of Women Voters, forums are co-sponsored by the Detroit Lakes Regional Chamber of Commerce, Becker County Coalition of Lake Associations (COLA), Becker County Energize, and the Prairie Woods Chapter of the Izaak Walton League of America.

Email Questions in Advance or at Event

Voters attending the forum have two opportunities to submit questions to the candidates. The League of Women Voters has an email for voters to submit questions in advance. That email address is detroitlakeslwv@gmail.com. By League of Women Voter policy, the identity of the person asking the question is confidential. Any questions submitted via email will remain confidential with all identifying information removed before the event. Audience members will also have the opportunity to submit questions in writing at the event, in accordance with Forum Rules.

Monday October 22 — M-State Conference Center, Detroit Lakes. The Detroit Lakes City Council candidate forum will begin at 6:45pm. The candidates for the two at-large seats are Natalie Bly, Beth Pridday, Madalynn Sukke and John Thorpe. Ward 1 Incumbent Dan Wenner is unopposed and unable to attend. The two candidates for the Ward 2 seat are Rick Johnson and Jay Schurman. Ward 3 Council member Matt Boeke is unopposed and will participate. At 8:00 pm, the Detroit Lakes School Board candidate forum will be held. The five candidates running for three seats are Kylie Johnson, Jennifer Pederson, Robert Strand, April Thomas and Tom Trowbridge.

Tuesday, October 30 — Lake Park High School Gym. At 7:00 pm the six candidates running for the four open seats on the Lake Park Audubon School Board are Skye Bjerke, Becky Mitchell, David O’Connell, Chris Skjold, Marvin Vareberg and Brian Wetli. Marge Beudine is running unopposed to fill one additional open seat in a special election.
