Gabe Grunewald, who passed away after a long battle with cancer on June 11th, will be honored on Tuesday June 25th on what would have been her 33rd birthday.
Governor Tim Walz will proclaim June 25th 'Gabriele Grundwald Day' across the state tomorrow at a ceremony at B.F Nelson Park in Minneapolis. The ceremony will also feature tributes from Lt Governor Peggy Flanagan, Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey, Olympian Carrie Tollefson and Gabe's husband Justin Grunewald.
Justin invites runners of all abilities and ages to join the ceremony, which will be followed by a 1.405 mile run and walk around Nicollete Island after the ceremony.
There will also be merchandise sold at the event benefiting Gabe's charity, the Brave Like Gabe Foundation.
If you're unable to attend the ceremony, you can participate in the Brave Like Gabe run by posting a picture of your run on social media with the hashtag #BraveLikeGabe or #RunningOnHope.
Gabe Grunewald, a 2004 graduate of Perham High School, was diagnosed with cancer while running for the University of Minnesota in 2009, but still had a successful professional running career while battling the disease. She was training for the 2020 Olympics in Tokyo, Japan.
