Grand Forks Police are looking for a white male who tried to lure a sixth-grade girl into his mini-van.

Police say around 3:35 on Thursday afternoon, a sixth-grader from Schroeder Middle School was walking home on the 33-hundred block of South 10 Street when the man told her that her mother was at a hospital emergency room and she needed to come with him immediately.

The student knew it wasn’t true and ran home, where she notified a family member, who contacted police. The man did not follow the student.

Police says the suspect is 50-to-60 years old, with gray/white hair and a gray/white beard or goatee wearing a tan leather jacket and blue jeans. He wore a white baseball cap with black lettering.

The van is described as red, with clothes piled in the rear. It possibly has South Dakota license plates.

Anyone with information about the incident, or who has surveillance video, is asked to contact the GFPD.
