DETROIT LAKES, MN--Ground was broken today in Detroit Lakes for the new home of the Boys and Girls Club of Detroit Lakes. Club Executive Director Pat Petermann says 11 months ago the Club kicked off the silent phase of the Capital Campaign to raise $6.5 million for the project. Petermann says as of this week, they've reached $5.9 million dollars and have about 450 to 500-thousand left as they enter their public phase of the fundraising campaign--which people can contribute now online on the club's website or they are also selling pavers. Detroit Lakes Mayor Matt Brenk says the club is a tremendous asset to the community, not only because of the new $6.5 Million facility but because the club will create and provide great programs and services for the youth and their futures.
The old club building will be demolished either the end of this week or the beginning of next week according to Petermann and the new building is to be completed by the fall of 2019.
