DETROIT LAKES, MN--Detroit Lakes residents, decision-makers, property owners, are invited this week to give their input on the next phase of planning for West Lake Drive. Detroit Lakes City Council hired the planning consultant firm RDG out of Omaha, NE, to develop a Business Corridor Plan essentially for the beach area of West Lake Drive including the Pavilion, and neighborhoods surrounding the area. RDG is in the process of gathering input it will use to develop a design for the area extending to Legion Road. The objective is to coordinate the area’s priorities with general community goals. The meetings this week are a follow up to input gathered from the kick off meeting on July 10th and focus group meetings in July. Design Studio open houses will be held on Tuesday, August 1st and Wednesday, August 2nd at Detroit Lakes City Hall from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm. People may come check out the plan, give input and leave as they wish. RDG is working toward an October deadline to submit a design plan to the city for it's planning purposes. The City of Detroit Lakes utilized the help of RDG in the redevelopment of downtown Detroit Lakes in 2008.
