Laker Sports Update: Sept. 7

The Laker cross country teams invited yesterday at the Lakeview Golf Course. The Laker boys’ finished second at the invite with 3 runners finishing in the top 10. 2 Peyton Nordby 18:02.6, 3 Tanner Olson 18:20.0, 8 Grant Fritch-Gallatin 18:27.7. The Laker girls’ cross country team finished in 7th place with Kaitlyn Jorgenson finishing as the top Laker in 19th place 22:40.7. The invite was the one and only home invite of the season.
The girls’ soccer team took on the Crookston Pirates yesterday at the Crookston high school. The Lakers were able to pick up their fourth win of the season, DL beat the Pirates 4-0, with Nicole Swanson recording a hat-trick. The game was shortened due to lightning. The Lakers are now 4-1 on the season. Next up they will take on East Grand Forks next Thursday at 5pm.
Detroit Lakes Volleyball improved their record last night by beating the Frazee Hornets 3-1. The Hornets beat the Lakers in the first set 25-22. Detroit Lakes was able to gain momentum in the second set and did not look back, as they won the next 3 sets, 25-14, 25-17, and 25-17. Lakers are now 2-2 on the season. Next up they will be at home to take on the Aitkin Gobblers, on Tuesday.
The Laker Tennis team will be hosting a Triangular today at DLHS. The triangular gets underway at 1pm as DL will take on Wadena and then they will square off with Crookston at 4pm.
Also in action today will be the football team as they put their 1-0 record to the test, versus rival Perham. The Yellow Jackets are 1-0 on the season as well. Tonight will be Tackle Cancer Awareness night at Mollberg Field, fans are asked to wear pink to raise the awareness for cancer. Laker football can be heard tonight on KDLM pregame coverage begins at 6:30pm kickoff is slated for 7pm.
