JORDAN, MINN (KDLM) -- Despite two record breaking performances by two golfers from Red Wing, the Detroit Lakes Laker Girls Golf team, will move on to day two with a six-stroke lead on the leaderboard. The Lakers were led by their sophomores Anna Cihak and Shelby Busker.
Cihak shot an even par 72 which gives her sole possession of 3rd place, she will be in the final group heading into day two. After shooting a career best score, Cihak said she was feeling it out there today, “I started with a birdie and that got me going right away.” Heading into tomorrow, Cihak says, the key is consistency, “if we have a bad shot we need to just let it go.”
Laker sophomore Shelby Busker shot a two-strokes over 74 and finished in 4th place. Laker Senior captain Maddie Herzog shot a respectable 80 and is tied with five other golfers for 7th place. 8th grader Mckenna Mallow shot a 95 and finished in 51st heading into the final round.
Maddie Herzog’s cousin Leah Herzog of Red Wing, broke the course record shooting a score of 66. That record did not last for long, as fellow teammate, Sophia Yoemans shot a 63. That score not only broke the course record but also broke the MSHSL record.
Day two of the Class AA State Golf Tournament gets underway at 7:30am Wednesday. Listen to live updates from Jordan throughout the day on KDLM.
