DETROIT LAKES (KDLM) - Lakes area High School staff and students participated in the United Way Day of Caring Wednesday, May 9 helping those in need.

Volunteers from Detroit Lakes, Frazee and Lake Park Audubon including students, staff and community members along with the United Way spent the day helping people in need with yard work, window cleaning, and outdoor chores.

Stacey Gravelle, helped her son, a Detroit Lakes High student rake, "I've learned today that a group of high school kids can get a job done. What's cool is each group has someone that can take the lead with rakes, stacking wood, building retaining walls and smiling through it. They feel accomplished and knwo it's all because someone may not be able to accomplish this anymore on their own".

The goal of United Way of Becker County is to create lasting and measurable change that improves the quality of life for children, adults, seniors, the disabled, families, and communities throughout Becker County.
