DETROIT LAKES, MN--A little less than a third the month of January we saw high temperatures 30-degrees or above, about half the month was above average temperatures for January, in the 20s and above, the rest of it was, well, just plain cold. Local weather statistics for January have been compiled by Leighton Broadcasting Detroit Lakes' weather record-keeper, Charile Newland.
The average daily high temperature was 17 degrees with highest daytime temp of the month recorded on January 19th. The high that day was 45-degrees, breaking the previous record set in January 2017 of 44-degrees. The coldest daytime high was -9 degrees on New Year's Day, January 1st. The average overnight low temperature was -1 degree. The coldest overnight low was -28 recorded on January 14th. The warmest overnight low was 29-degees recorded on January 10th.
There were three days of precipitation, all of it snow. The most snowfall was two-inches recorded on January 10th. The total January and 2018 snowfall is 4.4-inches. So far this winter (October-January) we recorded 26.25 inches of snowfall, which melted down equals 4.61 inches of moisture.
