Man Accused of Killing former Lake Park Police Chief makes First Court Appearance

DETROIT LAKES (KDLM) - Morris Dodd Jr., the man charged with the hunting death of the former Lake Park police chief appeared in court Monday.
Dodd Jr. is charged with one count of felony second-degree manslaughter and one felony count of a felon illegally possessing a firearm.
Becker County officials previously identified the victim as Jay Clayton Nelson.
In November, the body of Jay Clayton Nelson was discovered in a vehicle on the White Earth Reservation.
Dodd told police he was in the area and that he fired toward a fawn in order to scare it the same day Nelson was shot and killed.
The Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension found and tested a spent shell casing and bullet retrieved from the body of Nelson and deteremined it came from Dodd's rifle.
Dodd remains in jail.
