OTTER TAIL COUNTY (KBRF) - In what could have resulted in a tragic accident in December, two good Samaritans who jumped in to save a man from drowning on Wall Lake have been honored for their quick actions.

Jacob Payson and Cameron Hanson have received Life Saving Awards from Otter Tail County Sheriff Barry Fitzgibbons and a Civilian Life Saving Medal, which is the highest honor, from Fergus Falls Fire Chief Ryan Muchow.

The Two men witnessed sixty-five year old Leon Engelhart of Fergus Falls in open water and his 4-wheeler submerged. They sprang into action and pulled Engelhart out of the water and onto shore where Fergus Falls First Responders, Otter Tail County Sheriff’s Deputies, and Ringdahl Ambulance provided medical care for severe hypothermia.
