Minneapolis Man Faces Criminal Drug Charges In Becker County Following Weekend Traffic Stop

DETROIT LAKES, MN--A Minneapolis man is being held in the Becker County Jail on 100-thousand dollars bail facing a criminal drug possession charge. Court records state 29 year old Jorge Garcia, Jr., was pulled over Saturday after a Becker County Deputy on patrol west of Detroit Lakes on Becker County Highway 11 near County Highway 6 observed a vehicle traveling at a slow rate and swerving across the center line. According to court records, after being pulled over, the deputy observed signs the driver, Garcia was impaired by alcohol. Garcia ultimately failed field sobriety tests. There was one other passenger in the vehicle, 29 year old Danielle Thompson, no home address given. As she was asked to exit the vehicle records state the officer observed a number of items in the vehicle associated with the sale of drugs and drug paraphernalia. Court records allege Thompson admitted to using heroin and Garcia had used meth earlier in the day. Thompson allegedly admitted she had placed meth in the vehicle's glove box, where officers found 1 gram upon search of the vehicle. Also found during the vehicle search was 86 grams of meth, to which Garcia allegedly admitted he had. Garcia has been charged with 1st degree drug possession and a DWI. Bail for Garcia and Thompson were each set Tuesday.
Thompson is being held on 10-thousand dollars bail in the Becker County jail for 5th degree drug possession. Garcia's next court date is February 12th. Thompson's is February 26th.
