DETROIT LAKES, MN--An Ogema man sits in the Becker County Jail awaiting charges after leading law enforcement on a high speed chase near Detroit Lakes Thursday afternoon. The Becker County Sheriff's Office says a Becker County deputy stopped 27 year old Jamie Bevins initially for passing a vehicle in a no passing zone on County Road 21 south of County road 149. The deputy knew Bevins was the driver of the vehicle and also was aware Bevins had five active warrants, including two felony warrants. The Sheriff's office says as the deputy approached the driver's door Bevins accelerated from the stop, made a U-turn and traveled north on Highway 21 reaching speeds over 100 mph. The chase continued on a number of county roads and several tire deflation attempts failed before a successful tire deflation device ended the pursuit just north of County Road 144 and Bevins was immediately arrested. Becker County Sheriff Todd Glander says along with the five warrants, two for felony burglary and theft, Bevins is being held in the Becker County Jail with pending charges of Fleeing a Police Officer and Motor Vehicle Theft.
