PERHAM (KDLM) - The Perham-Dent School District received a check for almost $490,051.00 from Otter Tail Power Company at last night's school board meeting.
Chris Waltz, Senior Commercial Industrial Representative for the Fergus Falls area from Otter Tail Power, said the rebate check is the largest the company has ever issued for a single project.
Waltz explained that the district participated in Otter Tail Power's free Integrated Building Design Plus program, which provides free engineering and modeling services to make buildings as efficient as possible. The new high school is forty-five percent (45%) more efficient than standard buildings with current energy codes.
The district and power company worked together to find efficient solutions for lighting, heating, and other electrical use in the new high school. These solutions included energy recovery systems, LED lighting, and a geothermal heating/cooling system - which will lead to operating cost savings of about $100,000 per year.
Waltz also delivered a second rebate check for eighty-four thousand dollars ($84,000), which came from the heat pump replacement project recently completed at Heart of the Lakes Elementary.
