PERHAM (KDLM) - Perham's largest summer event, Turtle Fest kicks off Wednesday. With dozens of events, there's something fun for everyone! Turtle races, Parades, concerts, trolley rides, and so much more!
Turtle fest kicks off Wednesday, June 13th, with the Lakes 99.5 (owned by KDLM parent company Leighton Broadcasting) turtle races beginning at 10:30 a.m. Other events include CMCU trolley rides, a $500 medallion hunt brought to you by Landmark Liquors and McDonalds, the RD Offutt and Bremer Farmers Market, KLN Relay 4 Life Cookout, carriage rides at Ma's, and a matinee movie at Comet Theater.
This year Turtle Fest is mixing things up with the addition of a carnival, complete with games, rides, and a street dance. The carnival will take place Saturday, June 16th, from 10 am to 4pm in the Arvig parking lot. Attend the carnival for your chance to enjoy old fashioned carnival games and prizes, live music, a bouncy house, and a strolling magician and magic show!
Another new addition to this year's Turtle Fest is a visit from New York Time's Bestselling author, William Kent Krueger. Thanks to the Perham Area Public Library, Krueger will be giving a presentation at New Creation Church on Thursday, June 14th at 7pm.
One of the must-attend events is the Grand Parade held Friday evening at 6:30. "We are expecting at least 85 entries including marching bands from Frazee, New York Mills, and Underwood. You can also expect to see a bagpipe group and Crunch, the official mascot of the Minnesota Timberwolves" says parade chairperson, Tyler Krumwiede.
Dan Schroeder, Perham Area Chamber Executive Director, says " Without the help and support of our community and sponsors, Turtle Fest would not happen. We are so grateful to everyone who steps up to help. We start things off Wednesday with the turtle races, we have medallion hunts, a Grand Parade, and all kinds of events for families throughout the week".
