Police chase near Wadena ends peacefully

WADENA (KDLM) - A police chase near Wadena involving a suicidal man ended peacefully, Tuesday.
On Tuesday, October 9 at approximately 3:45 p.m. the Wadena County Sheriff's Office received information regarding a possibly suicidal adult male traveling Northbound through Wadena County on US Hwy 71. Dispatch relayed information to all local agencies for an attempt to locate the male.
At approximately 4:21 p.m. the vehicle was located. The vehicle sped away once the driver noticed squad cars were present. For safety concerns Officers waited to initiate a stop on the vehicle to avoid a pursuit. Once Officers were close enough to the vehicle they activated emergency lights in an attempt to stop it at Jefferson and 1st N.W. Sebeka.
The vehicle took off Westbound on 1st St N.W. at a high rate of acceleration. After about 100 yards the vehicle pulled to the side of the roadway in front of the Sebeka School. The driver was ordered out of his vehicle and taken into custody without incident, to be transported by way of ambulance to Tri-County Hospital for a mental health evaluation. At no time was the safety and welfare of the general public in jeopardy.
Agencies assisting/involved were the Wadena County Sheriff's Office, Sebeka, Menahga, Wadena Police Departments, Minnesota State Patrol and Tri-County Ambulance Service.
Given the nature of the call, some details and identity will not be released.
