A leftover can of soda is being used to help solve a series of garage burglaries in Fargo.
A search warrant affidavit says 16 garage break-ins were reported March 29 at the Summers at Osgood Apartments at 4454 47th St. South. According to the affidavit, the garages were entered by prying the outside locks and crossing wires to open the electric doors.
Fargo police collected a pop can with DNA that investigators believed was left behind by the suspect. Court documents filed in Moorhead say 29-year-old Jason Bearking was caught on surveillance driving a stolen car from one of the garages. The next day, Bearking fled from police in Fargo. He’s now in the Clay County Jail in Moorhead.
Court documents say investigators want a judge to order Bearking to provide a DNA sample to see if it matches the DNA on the can of pop.
Bearking is also wanted in Fargo for fleeing, reckless endangerment and driving under suspension.
