DETROIT LAKES, MN--Detroit Lakes will be the sight of a military veteran stand down next week. Becker County Veteran Services Officer Lauri Brooke says the event on Wednesday, April 26th is free for all veterans. Brooke says it's at the Kent Freeman Sports Arena on Rossman Avenue from 8:00am to 2:00pm and many free services will be offered including legal assistance, which she says is one of the biggest benefits of the stand downs. The Minnesota DMV, employment assistance, housing and chaplaincy will also be available. Brooke says there will be access to free clothing surplus for any homeless veterans registered in a shelter or unsheltered. The Stand Down is a federally-run program through the Minnesota Assistance Council for Veterans.
