PELICAN RAPIDS, MN--An early Thursday morning crash about 5 ½ miles southeast of Pelican Rapids sent three to the hospital.
Around 1:00 am Thursday, a 2004 Chevrolet Trailblazer driven by a 17-year-old male from Pelican Rapids and a 2001 Ford F-250 pickup driven by an 18-year-old Vergas man were both northbound near the intersection of Otter Tail County Highway 3 and Moonlight Bay Road, southeast of Pelican Rapids, when the driver of Trailblazer attempted to pass the pickup at a high rate of speed.
The Otter Tail County Sheriff’s Office says the vehicles collided at that point, causing the Trailblazer to drive into the west ditch. The driver and two passengers in the Trailblazer, sustained non-life threatening injuries and were transported by Ringdahl Ambulance to Lake Region Healthcare and Essentia-Detroit Lakes. The two passengers in the Trailblazer were not wearing their seatbelts and the drivers of both vehicles were issued citations in the crash.
The Sheriff’s Office says alcohol was not believed to be a factor in the crash.
