DETROIT LAKES, MN--Over 100 people packed into a town hall meeting with state legislators Monday night in Detroit Lakes. The Detroit Lakes League of Women Voters hosted the event at Ecumen. Three of the four legislators invited and who had confirmed their participation showed up. District 4 Senator Kent Eken (DFL-Twin Valley), District 4B Representative Paul Marquart (DFL-Dillworth) arrived a few minutes late coming from a day of attending seven other legislative town halls in their district prior to last night's in Detroit Lakes. District 2 Senator Paul Utke (GOP-Park Rapids) was also on hand. To the disappointment of many constituents who had traveled from the Nevis and Park Rapids area, District 2B Representative Steve Green (GOP-Fosston)was not on hand. According to event organizers, he had called in sick at the last minute.

During the two-hour town hall, nearly 20 main questions were fielded by the Legislators on everything from protecting the Natural Environment, to tax relief, to how the state is dealing with teacher shortages and state licensure requirements, to funding of libraries across the state, to how the state will deal with cuts in federal funding of needed services, to whether reform on the omnibus bill system is possible.

Legislators thanked the League of Woman Voters for hosting the forum, for constituents showing up and urged people to contact the legislators if there are any questions or concerns about any proposed legislation that's made it's way to conference committee or on the tax or bonding bills. They said there is still time in the session to impact the course of action and outcomes.
