A Wet and Cooler August

DETROIT LAKES, MN--While August is typically known for the hot and dry Dog Days of summer August of 2017 was more like a wet dog. Not as typical as local weather statistics indicate temperatures were cooler than July and it was the wettest month yet this year. There were fifteen days of rain in August with a total of 4.19". The most rain fell on August 17th when we received 1.10" of rain. The total precipitation for 2017 through August is 16.66". The Average daytime high was 75 degrees. The warmest temperature recorded was 82 degrees on August 29th. The coolest daytime high was 66 degrees recorded twice, on August 13th and 16th. The average overnight low was 50 degrees. The coolest overnight low was 40 degrees on August 23rd. The warmest overnight low was 61 degrees on August 17th.
