DETROIT LAKES, MN--A major road reconstruction project in Detroit Lakes that will have a considerable effect on traffic in the south part of town begins.
Detroit Lakes Engineer Jon Pratt provided details on the Willow Street/West Avenue project at the City Council's Tuesday meeting. The bid was awarded to RL Larson in April and will be worked on in phases. The first phase will be Willow Street from Washington Avenue to Roosevelt Avenue beginning May 28th. It's a full reconstruction of the street and utilities. Pratt says crews will work from west to east. The street will be completely closed to thru traffic. The city will make provisions for residents in that area. The Roosevelt intersection will be open, at least three ways, north-south and east. He says that portion of the project will last well into the end of June.
Pratt says the West Avenue portion of the project will begin construction mid-summer. There will be a public pre-construction meeting for West Avenue area residents on May 21st at 5:30pm at City Hall.
