You Thought Today is Cold? Polar Vortex To Arrive Midweek

GRAND FORKS, MN -- Bitter cold is coming to our area. A wind chill watch goes into effect tomorrow following a winter storm that blew in last night and is continuing today. Forecasters say a polar vortex is bringing blowing snow and lows around minus 35 degrees tomorrow through Thursday, with wind chills causing dangerous dips that can quickly lead to frostbite.
The wintry weather is a good reminder for motorists to pay attention to local forecasts and road conditions. Carrie Carlson-Guest with Red Cross-Minnesota recommends that if there's a watch or a warning out, to really minimize travel if necessary. And always have a disaster supply kit in your vehicle. Carlson-Guest says in addition to warm clothing, that kit should include some bottled water, a flashlight, batteries, a first-aid kit, protein bars and even a chocolate bar, or two.
