The Laker baseball team picked up two wins on the road beating Crosby-Ironton in a doubleheader on Tuesday. The Lakers traveled to Crosby-Ironton and defeated the Rangers 7-3 and 15-1.
In game 1 Cooper Hermanson pitched a 7 inning complete game to ice the win and picked up his 2nd victory on the year. Hermanson scattered 6 hits while striking out 6 and walking just 1 walk. At the plate, the Lakers had 6 different players with one run each including Sully Wood, Ben Stearns, Blaine Henderson, Blake Itzen, Hank Komrosky, and Hermanson.
The second game the players had to deal with cold weather conditions and rain throughout the game. Sully Wood started on the hill and pitched for the win through the 4 1/2 inning affair, shortened due to the 10 run rule as Detroit Lakes walked away with the 15-1 victory. Freshmen Jordan Tucker led the way in his first varsity start with 3 hits including a double and 2 singles. Zack Oistad smacked out 3 singles in the lopsided affair. Wood was efficient on the mound with 1 walk and throwing minimal pitches as he struck out 5 and allowed only 2 hits. Sophomore catchers Blaine Henderson, in game 1 and Jaden Thorson in game 2, had solid defensive games behind the plate.
The Lakers return to the diamond on Thursday with another Midstate opponent in Park Rapids for a doubleheader. First pitch is scheduled for 4:00 at either Washington Park or the high school field, depending on field conditions.
