Detroit Lakes Softball and Baseball Teams Begin Their Seasons

The Laker girls’ softball team started the season off with a dominating win 15-0 in 4 Innings, over Conference opponent, Staples-Motley. Senior Madilyn Kirchner threw a no-hitter, striking out 11 batters. Offensively Lauryn Manning started the game with a 3-run homer in the first inning. Taylor Prussia would add a 2-run homer in the first. The Lakers scored 9 runs in the first inning. After a scoreless second inning, the Lakers added 5 more runs in the 3rd inning on a Laura Prussia 3-run homer and with couple walks and a Josey Allen single. The Lakers would add their 15th run in the 4th inning with an RBI single by Madilyn Kirchner winning the game with the 15-run rule. Laura Prussia finished the game with 5 RBI’s.
In game two, Mercedes Bellanger (1-0) and Lauryn Manning would combine for a 12-0 no-hitter. Bellanger struck out 6 in 4 innings, and Manning had 3 strikeouts in one inning, to lead the Lakers. The Lakers scored 5 runs in the top of the first with Laura Prussia hitting a solo homer and consecutive hits by Kirchner, Manning and a 2-run single by Taylor Prussia. Laura Prussia, Matteya Borah, and Heather Haarstick all collected 2 hits apiece. In all the Laker has 12 hits while getting the whole varsity roster of 16 in the game. Up next for the Lakers, they will have another conference doubleheader at Pequot Lakes next Tuesday, April 23rd, in Pequot Lakes.
The Laker baseball team fell to a Mid-State Conference opponent on Tuesday in their first game of the year. The Lakers traveled to Staples to take on the Staples-Motley Cardinals at the Pine Grove Park. Detroit Lakes fell 10-3 to the Cardinals. The Lakers will look to get back on track as they travel to Moorhead on Thursday to take on the Spuds, pending the weather.
