Detroit Lakes Softball wins convincingly against Fergus Falls

The #3 Detroit Lakes Laker softball team crushed the #6 Fergus Falls Otters in 4 innings earning the 15-0 victory, in the first round of the Section 8AAA playoffs. The game was played at Snappy Park with windy conditions that led to many home runs.
The Lakers struck for 5 runs in the 1st inning and then scored 9 runs in the 2nd. The Lakers then picked up a run in the 3rd inning to apply the 15-run mercy rule, after 4 innings. The Lakers had 4 home runs in the game with Dakota Moran, Sara Freeman, Laura Prussia, and Mercedez Bellanger all hitting homers. The Lakers combined for 15 hits in the ball game. Madilyn Kirchner was the pitcher and went 4 innings picking up 6 strikeouts and only allowing 2 baserunners the entire game.
Next up, Detroit Lakes will travel to #2 Bemidji on Thursday to take on the Lumberjacks. Bemidji won their first-round game yesterday 12-4 over Little Falls. In the other playoff game #5 Alexandria beat #4 Sauk Rapids-Rice 7-2. Alexandria will advance to play Sartell-St. Stephen on Thursday, Sartell had a first-round bye and did not play yesterday. The Section 8AAA playoffs are a double elimination tournament.
