The Lakers pulled off a late inning rally and beat the Perham Yellowjackets 4-3.
Perham’s Katie Johnson stifled the Lakers batters in the first three innings, not allowing a hit. In the 4th inning, Detroit Lakes loaded the bases but only scored one run. Johnson struck out the side to end the threat. Johnson struck out 8 Laker batters in all.
In the final inning, the game was tied 3-3. The Lakers had Laken Weaver start the inning at the plate, and she was able to reach base via an error. Then, Matteya Borah was able to lay down a bunt to get Weaver in scoring position. On the very next pitch, to the next batter Madilyn Kirchner, the Lakers laid down another bunt and thanks to an error by the Yellowjacket defense the Lakers were able to bring across the winning run.
Starting pitcher Madilyn Kirchner struck out 11 and only gave up four hits, and one earned run.
The Lakers are now 12-6 overall. Next up, they will have a huge section game on Thursday versus Fergus Falls. The first pitch is scheduled for 4:30 pm.
