Laker Girls Golf Takes 3rd place at the Class AA State Tournament

The Laker girls’ golf team placed third at the Class AA State Golf Tournament in Jordan, MN. Detroit Lakes finished the 2-day tournament with a score of 662. The Lakers shot a 325 on day 1 in the harsh conditions and shot a 337 on Wednesday during the championship round. The Lakers placed third behind Red Wing who won the championship with a score of 646. Minnewaska/BBE placed 2nd with a score of 647.
The Lakers were led both days by Junior Anna Cihak who shot the 3rd best score during the tournament. Cihak shot a 75 on day one and a 77 on day two. Cihak finished behind Sophia Yoemans of Red Wing who finished 6-under for the tournament to claim another championship for herself and team. Junior Shelby Busker of Detroit Lakes also shot in the top 10. Busker shot a 78 on day one and an 80 on day two, she was able to place 8th overall in the tournament. In other Detroit Lakes scores, Mckenna Mallow shot a two-day total of 168, Mckenna Burhans 187, Hanna Knoop 195, and Evan Westrum 196.
The Lakers were competing in their 12 state tournament and captured third for the third time in program history. Since the program was created, Detroit Lakes has made it to every single state tournament and has always placed.
