Laker Softball Continues their Perfect Start to the Season

Detroit Lakes traveled to Pequot Lakes for a conference doubleheader in softball on Tuesday. The Lakers entered the doubleheader with a 2-0 record which they kept unblemished sweeping the Patriots in both games.
In Game 1 the Lakers got the offense going right away with a Mercedez Bellanger RBI sacrifice fly scoring Laura Prussia who reached base on a hit batter. The Lakers bats came alive in the 4th inning with consecutive singles by Matteya Borah, Laken Weaver, and a Laura Prussia RBI single. Later that inning, Taylor Prussia had a single that drove in 2 runs, to pad the lead. Pequot Lakes attempted a comeback in the late innings but fell short falling to the Lakers by a final score of 9-5. Senior Madilyn Kirchner allowed only 2 hits, struck out 9 and walked 3 to earn the win. Kirchner is now 2-0 on the season.
In game 2 the Lakers cruised to an 8-1 lead going into the last inning with big hits from Laura Prussia. Prussia had a 2-run home run in the 2nd inning. The Lakers collected 8 hits in game 2 with two hits a piece by Laura Prussia and Autumn Kulik. Mercedez Bellanger (2-0) pitched a fantastic game allowing one earned a run in the game and striking out 4.
Detroit Lakes is now 4-0 and will play a Quadrangular this Friday when section opponents Little Falls and Sartell come to town. The Lakers will play Little Falls at 11 am and follow it up Sartell at 12:45. Immediately following the game, the Lakers will head to the cities to play in the Eagan Invitational on Saturday, April 27 for three games.
