Laker Softball Sweeps the Rangers in a Mid-State Conference Matchup

The Laker softball team completed the sweep of the Crosby-Ironton Rangers yesterday at Snappy Park in Detroit Lakes.
The Lakers shutout the Rangers in the first game 10-0. The Lakers were led defensively by their Senior Pitcher Madilyn Kirchner who finished the game with 8 strikeouts and did not surrender a run. Kirchner gave up only 1 hit through 5 innings and improved her record to 5-0 on the season. Leading the team offensively in game one was Sophomore Autumn Kulik who finished the game with 3 hits. In total, the Lakers had 9 hits.
In the second game of the double-header, Detroit Lakes pounded the Rangers pitching with a total of 16 hits in game 2. The Lakers went on to win by a final score of 15-4. Senior Mercedez Bellanger picked up the win in the circle improving her record to 3-2 on the year. The Lakers were led offensively by Senior Matteya Borah who went 4-4 in the game and Junior Taylor Prussia who had a 3 run home run in the very first inning.
The Lakers improved their record to 8-2 on the season and 6-0 in the Mid-State Conference. Next, the Lakers will travel to Park Rapids on Thursday at 4 pm. Park Rapids is also undefeated and according to head coach Phil Kirchner Thursday’s game will most likely decide who will win the conference.
