Laker Sports Brief 3-6-2019

The Laker boys’ basketball team saw their season conclude with a road loss in the Section 8AAA quarterfinals. The Lakers lost to Bemidji 40-32. Detroit Lakes led by as much as 11 points in the first half and enjoyed a lead going into the break. Out of halftime, Detroit Lakes could only muster 9 points in the second half with freshmen Nate Cihak picking up all the points. Bemidji took the lead with less than 5 minutes remaining and never looked back. Cihak led the way for the Lakers with 12 points, senior Jacob Bettcher had 10 points, and Ben Stearns chipped in with 6 points. The Lakers end their season with an overall record of 11-16 on the season.
Bemidji advances to the section semi-finals, they will take on St. Cloud Apollo who defeated Fergus Falls in overtime 58-54. On the other side of the bracket Sartell St. Stephen beat Little Falls 70-46 and Alexandria defeated Sauk Rapids-Rice 68-43. The semifinals were originally scheduled to be played in Moorhead on Saturday but because of the bad weather due to impact the area the games were moved up a day.
