Laker Sports Recap - October 3rd

The Laker Girls soccer team picked up another win yesterday afternoon improving their record to 10-2-2 on the season. The Lakers have now won 5 in a row, as they beat Hillcrest Lutheran Academy, by a final score 4-2. Next up for the Detroit Lakes, they will host Bemidji on Thursday, with huge section implications on the line. In the standings the Lakers are in 2nd place in Section 8A North standings Bemidji is currently 10-4 overall and a perfect 9-0 versus section opponents. Laker Soccer can be heard on Thursday on KDLM with our pregame coverage beginning at 6:45 and the match beginning at 7pm.
The Boys’ soccer team finished off their regular season home schedule with a tie yesterday against Pelican Rapids. The game finished scoreless. With the tie the Lakers are 6-7-1 on the season. Detroit Lakes has just one game remaining on the schedule as they will travel to Hillcrest Lutheran Academy on Thursday for a game scheduled at 4pm.
Girls’ tennis yesterday lost to Moorhead 7, Detroit Lakes 0. Lakers finish the regular season 9-8. DL is seeded sixth in the subsection tournament, which begins this Thursday in Grand Forks.
The Laker Volleyball team had an extremely close match last night with Pequot Lakes but fell a bit short in the end. The scoring went like this last night 25-16 DL, 25-20 Pequot, 25-23 DL, 25-16 Pequot, and in the 5th set Pequot beat DL 15-13. Laker Head Coach Sara Schnathorst said that she was proud of the way her team came out fighting, “we were able to battle… anytime you come out and go five games, means you didn’t quit and played them tough until the end.” With the loss Detroit Lakes falls to 8-7 on the season. Pequot improves their record to 11-4 on the season. Next up for Detroit Lakes they will host Staples-Motley on Thursday at the Ralph Anderson Gymnasium Coach Schnathorst says it will be a special night, “it will be youth fan appreciation night, then it will be Hawley on Tuesday the 9th and that will be our dig pink night.”
