Laker Swimmers Advance to State Meet Finals

DETROIT LAKES, MN—Five Laker swimmers qualify in six events for Friday’s State meet finals in Minneapolis. The Lakers will swim two
relays and four individual events in the Minnesota State High School League
Class A at the U of M pool after placing in the top-16 in the prelim meet to advance. Qualifying in Thursday's prelims were the 200 Medley Relay of
Josie Retz, Syd Gulon, Jennifer Tracy and Lucy Steinke. The relay is seeded 13th in Friday’s finals. Jennifer Tracy qualified in the 200 I.M.
and the 100 Butterfly. Tracy is seeded 12th in the I.M. and 7th
in the butterfly. Syd Gulon qualified in the 500 freestyle and the 100
breaststroke. Gulon is seeded 7th in the 500 and 5th in
the 100 breaststroke. The 400 free relay of Gulon, Steinke, Kaitlyn Peterson
and Tracy are seeded 10th going into tomorrow’s finals.
Other Laker swimmer finishers from Thursday:
Kaitlyn Peterson finished 21st in the 200 freestyle and 22nd in the 500 freestyle.
Evan Westrum finished 22nd in the 100 butterfly.
Madi Gerdes finished 22nd in the 100 breaststroke.
Results from Thursday’s diving prelims and semifinals:
Lexi Yliniemi finished 17th and Jackson Hegg finished 18th.
The top-16 in each event swim and dive in finals beginning at Noon Friday.
