The Detroit Lakes Lakers are 8-0 for the first time since 2014 after a dominating win over Thief River Falls 55-0.

Junior running back Isaiah Thompson needed 93 yards to break Mark Leslie's single season rushing record, and he got in on a 20 yard run midway through the first quarter.

“I was just thinking about my line and how they contribute to me,” Thompson told Jim Peterick during his KDLM Postgame interview. “I couldn’t have done it without my front five, fullback Gabe Hanninen, the wideouts and most of all, my quarterback Max Gunderson for leading our team and leading us to victory.”

Thompson has rushed for 1,466 yards this season, and his 2,396 puts him 10th on the all-time list.

Gabe Hanninen scored the first touchdown for the Lakes tonight on a one yard run. Thompson recorded 48 of the 93 yards needed to break the record on two carries on the Lakers first drive. Reed Mace only had two carries against Thief River Falls, both in the first quarter, but he made them both count. The first was a 30 yard touchdown to give Detroit Lakes a 14-0 lead. The second came about two minutes later on a 14 yard touchdown run. The play before Mace's second touchdown, Isaiah Thompson broke Mark Leslie's single season rushing record.

Thompson scored a touchdown on the first play of the second quarter to extend the Lakers lead to 28-0. Max Gunderson, who finished 4/4 passing for 43 yards, found Jake Bettcher in the end zone for a 20 yard touchdown. Later in the quarter, Bettcher struck on defense by intercepting a Grant Hartman pass and taking it 79 yards the other way for a defensive touchdown.

With the Laker starters out of the game midway through the second quarter, and with a 42-0 lead, the second stringers had their moment under the lights. Matt Tobkin, Colby Olson, Jackson Rhodes and company held their own against the Prowlers first-team. Rhodes had a 15 yard touchdown in the third quarter.

A big moment for the second-string defense came with the shutout on the line late in the third quarter when Dylan Coalwell and the Lakers blocked a 37 yard field goal attempt.

Freshman Christian Solberg added a 34 yard touchdown in the final minute to give the Lakers a 55-0 win in the regular season finale.

Thompson was named the Quality Toyota Quality Player of the Game, finishing with 147 yards and a touchdown on only 8 carries.

Coming into the game, Detroit Lakes was #6 in the QRF. Willmar was #9 and shut out defending section champion Rocori 46-0. Playoff seeding and matchups will be released on Thursday, October 18th
