Lakers Girls Swim and Dive Four-peat Champs of Section 8A True Team

UNDATED--The Detroit Lakes Lakers Girls Swim and Dive are four-peat champs of the Minnesota State High School Coaches Association Section 8A Swimming and Diving True Team meet.
The Lakers won nine of 12 events and the meet in Warroad Saturday competing against 7 teams. The Lakers 1st-place finishes included the Medley Relay, 200 Free, 200 IM, Diving, 100 Fly, 500 Free, 200 Free Relay, 100 Breaststroke and 400 Free Relay.
Gold-medalists included the 200 Medley Relay ("A" Relay: Josie Retz, Syd Gulon, Jen Tracy, Lucy Steinke); 200 Free-Kaitlyn Peterson; 200 IM-Jennifer Tracy; Diving-Lexi Yliniemi; 100 Butterfly-Jen Tracy; 500 Free-Syd Gulon; 200 Free Relay-Evan Westrum, Maddie Henderson, Chelsy Johnson, Kaitlyn Peterson; 100 Breaststroke-Syd Gulon and the "A" 400 Free Relay of Jen Tracy, Lucy Steinke, Kaitlyn Peterson, Syd Gulon.
Along with the first-place finishers, other medalists (those placing in the top-8) included: The "B" 200 Medley Relay consisting of Main Westrum, Madi Gerdes, Lexi Gerdes and Faith Hamm placed 5th; in the 200 freestyle: Faith Hamm finished 3rd and Josie Retz, 8th; In the 200 IM, Lexi Gerdes finished 2nd and Marin Westrum finished 7th; In the 50 Freestyle, Lucy Steinke finished 2nd and Maddie Henderson 6th; In Diving, Kennedy Hegg finished 8th; In the 100 fly, Evan Westrum finished 3rd and Lexi Gerdes 8th; In the 100 freestyle, Chelsy Johnson finished 2nd, Lucy Steinke finished 3rd and Maddie Henderson 8th. In the 500 freestyle, Kaitlyn Peterson finished 2nd, Faith Hamm finished 3rd and Ellie Staley finished 7th. In 100 backstroke, Josie Retz finished 2nd. In the 100 breaststroke, Madi Gerdes finished 2nd, Chelsy Johnson 3rd and Ellie Staley finished 5th. The "B" 400 free relay of Chelsy Johnson, Faith Hamm, Maddie Henderson, Evan Westrum finished 3rd.
The Lakers won the meet with 1233 points; Bemidji was second with 1105.5 points; Park Rapids with 927.5 points; Thief River Falls with 823 points; Perham-New York Mills 767 points; Warroad 665 points; and Crookston with 325 points.
The Lakers will travel this weekend to the U of M for the State True Team Meet held Saturday beginning at 1:00 pm.
